Velvet Rose has a champion pedigree loaded with color genetics. Her sire is the champion Snowmass Velvetier -- a Snowmass Velvet Touche son. Her dam is Andina's Rose Pearl -- a Snowmass Silver Signature daughter.
In fact, if you are interested in Snowmass genetics, Velvet Rose is actually 3/4 Snowmass pedigree. Her Snowmass lineage includes: (Snowmass) Velvet Touche, Royal Splendor, Invincible, Royal Bronze, Serenity Sunbeam, Matrix, Royal Flush, Sweet Dreams, Peruvian Casanova, Andean Bronze, Quechua. On top of that she bears genetics from Accoyo Victor by way of Victor's Julius. If you know Victor progeny, you know that they have lingering fineness.
Velvet Rose has good conformation on a square frame. She is well covered in fleece that is bright and long in staple length, with a high frequency crimp style. Her fiber is very fine with good density for her fineness. She is a sweet girl with lots of potential in a our breeding program.
She was first bred to our Dauntless but slipped her breeding. Then, she was 'lost in the shuffle' as we moved so that she wasn't bred during our transition year.
Well a sad for us when her little girl, sired by Axios, died at 3 days old. She was a bit premature but had been nursing well. The weather had been odd, filled with rainy days punctuated by really hot ones, and we think the heat on one day just was too hard on her metabolic control despite being kept inside the barn.
Here's hoping that three times is the charm. As we always change up the breeding when we have a loss, just in case, we will have to think of her next service sire...but Ragnarok may be a candidate.
